In October when K changed schools Tim made her a promise. If she finished the school year with a 3. 75 GPA or higher then he'd buy her another bird. Well - she did what she was asked and finished with a 3.9 GPA so now it was Tim's turn to hold up his end of the deal. Fairly close to our home is a pet store and they specialize in birds! When we got K's grades and saw how well she did, she immediately decided to go see what the pet store had. K didn't want another Cockatiel - not that she didn't love Speck, but she didn't want to replace him like that. So she decided on another type - a Green Cheek Conure. Anyway... K picked out a baby Conure that she liked but we didn't purchase him. We left K thinking that we'd get a bird eventually but right now we just couldn't do it and that was that! A few days later Tim and I went in to the store and paid for the bird. The ladies that work at the store thought it was funny that we were surprising K this way! We took the receipt and put it in the bird cage that we have at our house and just waited for K to find it. When she finally found it she was so excited - she could hardly believe that we paid for a bird and even picked the one that she had been playing with just a few days before! Since he was just a baby he had to be hand fed soft foods until he could handle more grown up bird food and be sent home so K had to settle for visiting him at the pet store for a few weeks.
Well, the day finally came - last Friday. K was more than excited when she found out that YAGO could finally come home (hehehe - I got to name him!).
This is just a stock photo but it is actually pretty close to what Yago looks like. So I'm a grandma again - to a little feathered friend. He's sweet - he likes to be around people and although he hasn't found his voice yet he is trying. K is determined to teach him some tricks and how to talk- and apparently this type of bird has the ability to learn - so we'll see! Welcome to our home, Yago!

Awww! Way to go K. You worked hard and it paid off.
Oh I can't wait to see Yago! This bird is so beautiful! Love all the colors. I know K will be a good mom.
