Last Friday K had "tryouts" for Shakespeare. They wouldn't let anyone in the gym expect the directors - so I had to send my camera in with K and the lady that took the picture only took one and it's sort of far! OH WELL! K sang "Castle on a Cloud" from Les Miserables and read the part of Juliet. K, along with 50 other girls, is hoping to get the part of Juliet. However, she did tell the directors that if she couldn't have that part that she wanted to be Lady Macbeth (only one of the BEST female characters in Shakespeare!). Then K told them that the problem with Macbeth is that rehearsals are on Wednesday and she has Algebra until 4 on Wednesdays. To which the director replied "Macbeth is now on Thursdays - is that alright with you?". We should know by this Friday which part she got.
Sunday we anxiously watched the Saints play the Vikings. L figured it was an LSU game and he came out in all of his LSU gear - hat included! He kept saying "go tigers" - too funny!
Monday was a big day for K!! She has been looking forward to this for a few weeks. She was asked to introduce Obert Skye - author of Leven Thumps - for a school assembly! Because of this honor she was able to steal away 25 minutes alone with him. She brought all of her books to have him sign, and posters too. If you look really close - she is wearing a Leven Thumps shirt - he ended up signing that as well! He told K that she was by far his biggest fan and that he'd never seen a child with ALL of his writings -so he emptied a bag of his, signed it and gave it to K to carry her books around in. It is purple and black and says "Leven Thumps" on it. You can see it in one of the pics! Although K read her introduction at lightening speed, she got a lot of compliments on it and Mr. Skye even said that he was impressed with how much she knew about him. His message to the school was a good one - "Have Courage, Think Big, Be Great". K thanked the Librarian that gave her this splendid opportunity and she was smiles the whole rest of the day! Now I get to print a picture and take it to his next signing for him to sign - so K can have it in a frame!! Mr. Skye said "looking forward to it". Oh - and for all you Leven Thumps fans, Obert (yeah - we're on a first name basis) told us that he has a sequel to Pillage coming in May called "Choke", and they are working on a movie - to which he jokingly said he'd like to cast K as one of the characters (maybe he wasn't joking - who knows!).

Well, if K becomes a child actor...I know an attorney who can act as her agent ;) She was so excited it was funny.
I've been anxiously awaiting these pictures all morning. YAY! I'm so excited for K. She is quite a gal! And I love his message..."Have Courage, Think Big, and Be Great". Might use that as we try to mentor the Junior High/High School Social Leadership Club that meets once a month. Great message. Thanks for sharing!
She looks so cute! I Hope she had a wonderful time. How cool for her.
