over the past week

Over the past week we've had company, gone out to dinner to celebrate the kids' school work, and sent a box of stuff to Haiti! We've been busy and we've had fun...wanna see?
Last weekend Grandma Sandy decided to come for a visit and see the grand kids. Having 8 grand kids in one place makes it a little easier - but her time is still divided and that's no fun! While she was at our house one night she asked K to pull out her violin and play a few songs. Well that turned into a mini lesson on how to properly hold the violin for grandma. There lots of giggles in this lesson and as you can see - grandma never got it just right - but we had fun with it and that's what counts - right?

One of the gifts that the children received for Christmas was a set amount of money from Grandpa Ross and Grandma Ronda. This money was to be used specifically to serve someone else. Let me tell you - this isn't easy to explain or do with children under the age of 8! We talked about it and went back and forth as a family for a long time about what to do with their given amounts. Then the earthquake in Haiti hit and this meant something to these kids. They could see the children on the news they heard about it in the schools - it hit close to home. When the opportunity arose to send a box of things through the church the kids immediately agreed that that's what they wanted to do. So we headed to the store and they each picked out what they wanted until their money was gone. They got some food, some things like shampoo and toilet paper, and even some toys for the kids. They were so excited. N and I loaded it all in the van and drove it to the drop point - he had the biggest grin on his face the whole time. I'm so glad they got this opportunity!

Finally - we had parent/teacher conferences this week and everyone is doing well. So we decided to use their "A's for Apples" coupons and take them out to dinner. YUM!!

It was a good week overall. I got to have lunch with a new friend, Tim has a potential client, K found out that she will have a part in all 3 Shakespeare plays that her school will be performing. None of it is what she wanted - but I'm sure she'll have fun (she gets to sing in Macbeth and Taming of the Shrew and she'll be narrating the Capulet's side of the story for Romeo and Juliet). See - FUN FUN FUN!!! See ya next time!
