Science....
K loves science! She likes to learn how and why things work. She likes to explore new ideas. The problem is - she likes this WHEN she likes it... it's like a mood that strikes her and she gets on the train and goes with it - and if she isn't in the mood, well, there is simply no motivation to explore. In January, K's school announced the science fair and K, of course, said she wanted to participate. That's as far as it went. Then 1 week before the power point for her project was due, she decided to start working on her idea. K wanted to build a Magnetic Levitation Train and explore how magnets can impact our future. So, in a matter of days she built a project, took pictures, put together a power point and submitted her thoughts and ideas on Magnetic Levitation and our Future to her school.
This is how our week went: on Sunday, K submitted her project. On Monday she received confirmation that her project was received. On Tuesday the entrants had to present via a virtual classroom using their power point presentations. (K was the first to present). On Wednesday we received an e-mail that told us how to attend the virtual awards ceremony. On Friday the winners were announced. K placed 1st for 7th grade and was then invited to move on to the Regional Science Fair at the University of Utah - which takes place in less than a month. She was beyond thrilled - she even cried when her name popped up on the screen accompanied by the picture you see above. As her mother, I'm not surprised that she placed, I'm just surprised that she accomplishes so much in so little time- if she'd just put more effort into her ideas there is no telling what she'd do!So, now we get to prepare for the next level and K plans to improve upon her ideas and project. Doesn't that sound fun?! Congrats K... we are so proud of you!!
