Louisiana Storm...

Well, this is what grounded us on Wednesday! Would you call that the start of a tornado? So far the news isn't calling it anything except a storm with winds reaching 90mph. When we woke up this morning it was nice and dark outside - you know, good sleeping weather! It was hard to get out of bed - wish I would have known about the cancelled flight before I opened my eyes! This next image is from the front porch - if you look past the lighting you can see how dark it really was at 8:30am!
After we determined that we weren't leaving we decided to get out and take a drive. You know me and my sadistic ways - I wanted to see the damage!! We knew that there was a tree down in Tim's brother's yard - we just had to see but take a look at what we saw on our way over - there was flooding everywhere... As we approached Tim's brother's home we saw this house! (yes, there is a house under that tree!)
Next we came to the place we were heading... isn't this sad?? This was a beautiful, big oak tree right in the back yard. It came down on the back fence and into the neighbors yard - missing the home by about 6". WOW!!!
After we left - we drove down the road a little further and this is what we saw...
YUP - that's a trailer - so this MUST HAVE BEEN a tornado!! (because we all know that trailers are tornado magnets!) Hope no one was in that truck!!
Anyway, we continued to see more of the same - flooding, trees down, houses completely damaged by limbs and large trees. As of now, there are still about 15,000 people without power in the central, Baton Rouge area. So - I guess it's alright that we didn't fly out - we may have been knocked out of the sky!!

Oh, the "flood" of memories. I remember these days WELL, especially the roof on the truck. Our neighbors across the street from us had this scene in their yard one morning after a record 8 tornados visited our little town. Glad you didn't get on a plane!
