Silly Girl

As you know, M says the funniest things sometimes! She is a perplexing girl. Sometimes she is easy going and gets homework done quickly and other times she struggles so much that it's like teaching a 2 year old how to add double digit numbers!

Last night was a night of homework that had M caught between "easy and hard". Tim was helping her and she finally got the answer to a problem that she'd been working on for a bit and he said "See M, you're so smart" and with a big smile on her face she says "YEAH - thanks to my brain!"

We laughed!

She keeps us on our toes for sure! And she keeps Dr. G on his toes too! Today M had another appointment with Dr. G and she was a whole different child. Dr. G. has seen the M that hides and keeps to herself. The M that's interested in puzzles more than talking to you. The M that says "don't bother me" when she's uncomfortable. The M that doesn't make eye contact with you or give you more than a one word answer to any question you ask.

TODAY, however, Dr. G. met a different M. M's "evil twin"!! He met the M that smiles all the time, that bounces around giggling, that tells you funny stories (even if she doesn't look at you) and the M that wants to sit in your lap and love you silly. This led Dr. G. to ask M: "M, what did you do with M?" and she laughed and said "I AM M!!". What he was saying was -where is the young lady that I've come to know - what did you do with her and who is this person I'm visiting with?

Poor Dr. G - he said that he felt inadequate in his diagnosis and that he needs to do some more thinking because what M did today was very perplexing and here we are again - back to what Tim and I have been saying all along - something is up with this child but we aren't sure what and today Dr. G. saw it too - he really saw it!! So - the diagnosis continues. Autism hasn't been taken out of the equation but Dr. G. feels that there is something more - something that we are missing and I think he's right! This silly girl - she really does keep us all on our toes!
