N loves soccer - especially indoor soccer. His team plays indoor during the off season to keep up their skills, build speed, and continue building team moral. N prefers indoor soccer because of the fast pace of the game and because you can use the walls to bounce the balls off at different angles to get around your competition.
This past weekend, Boca FC had 2 indoor games, one Friday night and one Saturday morning. Being President's Day weekend - Boca was short a few players. On Friday they had exactly 7 show up - enough to play but not enough for subs. The boys played amazingly. Their passes were clean and sharp. They played clean and kept the fouls to a minimum. They beat LaRoca (one of the better clubs) 5-3.
Then on Saturday morning, 2 minutes til game time there were only 3 players present. Oh boy! Eventually there were 5 boys - 2 short of a full team, but they decided to play. The other team, the Utah Hornets, had 9 players show up - man, our boys were gonna be T I R E D!
Well, within the first 30 seconds the Hornets scored off of one of our own players. Then, thanks to a stinky Ref who only called fouls one way (on Boca) the other team got a PK - giving them a 2-0 lead and we were only 10 minutes into the game.
N wasn't happy about this at all and he answered their PK with Boca's FIRST goal of the game. WAHOO!!
As the boys started getting gassed, you could see them slow down. At one point the LONE GIRL from the other team had the ball and she was coming into N's territory. Somehow she got around N and to me that just wasn't acceptable. So out of my mouth flew "Come on N... she's a GIRL" - well, I was LOUD about it and all the parents started snickering and N shot me a look. He was SO NOT HAPPY... but it made a difference - she didn't get around him for the remainder of the game.
Well, N's team quickly got the hint off of his goal and ended up adding 4 more goals making the game total 5-2. Those boys were worn out. They played SMART, they passed well, they worked their fannies off! And they didn't let the girl past them!
